Brits Getting Amorous with SMS The image of Brits being writers of long, romantic love letters is slowly becoming a thing of the past as SMS becomes an increasingly popular method of communication. In fact, a recent survey conducted by T-Mobile has found that approximately 40% of Brits are cherishing their love text messages by saving them in their handsets rather than hanging onto notes scrawled on a lovely piece of paper. In addition, approximately 46% of Brits have saved the poems and flirty notes they have received via SMS as well. The survey also found that those under the age of 24 are the most likely to hang onto their romantic text messages. In fact, approximately 49% of those in this age group have over 20 love text messages saved on their phones. Those over 45 years of age, however, are less likely to hang onto their messages – only 16% have more than 20 saved messages. The infiltration of text messaging into the love lives of Brits goes beyond just saving messages. The survey also found that 40% of women and 62% of those under the age of 24 feel it is easier to communicate with their partners with text messaging rather than with a face-to-face chat. 19% of men, on the other hand, still find poetry to be the most romantic means of communicating. The amount of time a couple has been together also seems to play a role in the number of flirty SMSs they send to one another. The survey found that 82% of those that have been dating for less than six months send flirty texts to one another. Those that have been together for five years, however, aren’t quite as active with the messages – only 58% if them send flirty text messages to one another.
