Teenagers Love to Use SMS Text Messages Teenagers love their cellphones, I am sure if you asked them what their most prized possession is, or what they could not do without, they would say their cellphone. Most parents get their children cellphones so they can stay in touch with them when they go out on weekends or when the kids need to inform them of after school activities. But cellphones have taken control in many teenagers’ lives and in some cases has even put their lives in danger. Of course, this is not always the case as it is really what the teen’s use their phone’s for. There’s nothing cooler than being able to send your friend a quick sms before school, or to remind them about something. As well as after school, to ask them to meet you somewhere or if they would like to go out. It is so much cheaper than a phone call, and you can still say the same thing to the other person. Teenagers also seem to use SMS messages as a new way to start dating someone they like. Before, it used to be writing the person a note, asking if they would like to go out, now it is done via sms. It is done this way now because you will not have to face the person when asking them out or when you are giving them an answer. Sms’ can be sent from anyone, anywhere to anyone else, anywhere. You can be at home and text someone on the other side of the city and they will receive your text. So the shy person can send the girl/guy they fancy a sms asking to go out sometime and the person can reply. It’s as easy as that! Text messages are also much quicker than a phone call, this may seem impossible but if you have seen a teen’s fingers moving across the keypad of a cellphone, you will understand! Well that’s if you get to see their hand, all you normally see is a blur movement! They use shortcuts for certain words, for example the word “you” can be written “u”, “be” is just “b”, “thanks” can be “txs”, “are” is “r”, “please” is “pls”, “for” is “4”. These are the ones the parents can still understand, these are the more complicated ones “later” “L8A”, “wants” is “1ts”, then with the longer words like “relationship” all the vowels are taken out, so in the end it is “rltnshp”. These are just a few of thousands of examples that are used as shortcuts for text messages. So in the end, it is quicker than a phone call! Cellphones have also caused complications at schools and many schools have banned the use of cellphones as some children have been caught using them in class and some have even cheated in tests by texting the answers to their friends. So although cellphones are a great way to keep in touch with family and friends, they can also be misused and abused.
